Regulatory and safety risk
Uncontrolled radioactive material can create a health, environmental, and reporting incident. The response can outlast the shift.
RadCar is a vehicle radiation monitoring system for scrap yards, steel mills, recycling facilities, logistics parks, and border crossings. It detects, alarms, records, and gives the operator a clear next step.
A single orphan radioactive source in a scrap load can trigger a regulatory incident, contaminate a furnace, or shut down a production line. The cheapest place to catch it is the entrance, before the vehicle unloads.

Melting a source can contaminate equipment and force a costly cleanup. The furnace may be down for weeks.
Without a gate check, you rely on drivers and visual inspection. Neither is reliable at vehicle volume.
RadCar is assembled from standard components. The site survey decides the detector count, lane layout, and mounting positions.
| Component | Role |
|---|---|
| Detector nodes | Radiation detectors mounted around the lane, calibrated against local background. |
| Edge gateway | Reads sensor data, parses vehicle state, calculates speed, and sends events. |
| Management platform | Stores passes, alarms, sites, devices, and audit records. |
| Industrial PC | Runs the operator UI in kiosk mode on the lane. No internet required. |
| Alarm and video | Pulsed audible alarm, visual banner, and camera linkage for evidence. |
| License and roles | Device-bound license, with admin, operator, and reviewer roles. |
Operators are busy. The system has to work with dust, vibration, power interruptions, and staff who did not design it.
4-state parsing (none, front, both, rear), backward compatible with single-sensor firmware.
Time between front and rear beam triggers, using configurable sensor spacing.
Stuck sensor, chatter, detector offline, overlapping vehicles, wrong-way movement, and serial silence.
Per-site background measurement and alarm thresholds, recorded for acceptance.
Pulsed alarm, silence button with automatic timeout, and an event record that survives the shift.
Captures the vehicle event for later review. The operator sees what triggered the alarm.
Local database and kiosk application. The gate keeps working when the internet does not.
Role-based access, audit log, and data backup/restore procedures.
Device fingerprint binding and a short license key for kiosk entry.
Any site that receives vehicles carrying material of unknown origin can use a gate check. These are the common deployments.
Inbound loads from mixed suppliers, with high vehicle volume and limited time per check.
Furnace protection and contamination prevention. A single source can stop production.
Gate screening and event records for vehicles moving between sites.
Controlled material movement with audit trails and role separation.
Most of the work happens before the first vehicle is screened. The installation itself is usually the shortest part.
Lane layout, detector placement, power, network, and camera positions.
Detectors, edge gateway, industrial PC, alarms, and wiring.
Background measurement, thresholds, speed parameters, and test passes.
Real vehicles, alarm drills, and false-positive review before acceptance.
